From humble beginnings and born into a rural family, Patrick Murphy is a self taught artist who comes from a fine tradition of Irish landscape painters. Patrick paints a landscape which is unapologetically sentimental as he remembers his childhood.
These images are from a time when life was simple and the inhabited cottages and colourful characters of Ireland were in abundance.
Patrick’s paintings are treasures, carrying on a tradition of painters like Markey Robinson who painted with a fluidity and instinct, and were neither restricted or fussy but used a mass of effective colour.
Patrick has a gentleness of spirit and humility which is embedded in every brushstroke.
